Bridges and crowns are fixed prosthetic devices cemented onto existing teeth or implants by a dentist or prosthodontist. Crowns are used to cover or “cap” a damaged tooth or to cover an implant. Bridges are used to cover an empty space if you’re missing one or more teeth. They are cemented to natural teeth surrounding the space where the tooth once stood or they can be implants.

Benefits of A Bridge Or Crown

In addition to strengthening a damaged tooth, bridges and crowns can be used to improve a tooth’s appearance, shape, alignment and bite. Gaps left by missing teeth can cause the remaining teeth to shift, which can result in a bad bite. Bridges and crowns help prevent shifting.

Taking Care Of Your Crown Or Bridge

While crowns and bridges can last a long time, they do sometimes come loose or fall out. To make sure your crown or bridges lasts a long time, practice good oral hygiene.

  • Brush with fluoride toothpaste twice a day and flossing daily
  • See us regularly for checkups and professional cleanings
  • Avoid chewing hard foods, ice or other hard objects when you first get your crown or bridge
