The sooner the better! Starting at birth, clean your child’s gums with a soft infant toothbrush and water. Begin brushing with a soft bristled toothbrush as soon as the first tooth erupts. Remember that most small children do not have the dexterity to brush their teeth effectively until around age 7. Do not use fluoridated toothpaste until age 2-3, unless otherwise directed by your pediatric dentist. Begin to floss as soon as teeth are touching.
